Jim and Carol Laub Family Donate $5 Million to Intermountain Health’s Primary Promise

Children needing access to expert pediatric care and support to stay healthy as they grow have received a major boost from the Laub family, who gave $5 million to Intermountain Health’s Primary Promise initiative to enhance children’s health in Utah and neighboring states.

Primary Promise is Intermountain Health’s historic philanthropic initiative to create the nation’s model health system for children. With a minimum goal of $600 million needed to bring the vision to life, Primary Promise so far has secured $540 million in a vital partnership between Intermountain Health and philanthropic members of the community.

“Jim and Carol Laub love their community, are well respected Utah business and civic leaders, and strong supporters of countless organization throughout the state. They are also extraordinarily humble – and we are grateful for their statement of leadership and investment in the unique substance of this historic effort to boost children’s health in every Utah community, and beyond,” said David Flood, president of the Intermountain Foundation and chief development officer for Intermountain Health.

“Their gift will impact an expansive region of neighborhoods and families who rely on Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital in times of need or crisis for generations,” Flood added.

Primary Promise is addressing the rapidly growing and complex physical and emotional health needs of children by strengthening Primary Children’s Hospital, innovatively addressing emerging health needs including helping kids with food instability and past traumatic events, and improving access to outstanding pediatric care and the expertise of Primary Children’s Hospital, both in person and through expanded telehealth services.

Primary Children’s serves a 400,000-square mile geographic region that includes Utah, Idaho Montana, Wyoming, and Nevada, as well as Alaska.

“We are thrilled that the Laub family has extended their generosity to giving young children the access to care they need to become the next generation of leaders,” said Katy Welkie, chief executive officer of Primary Children’s Hospital and vice president of Intermountain Children’s Health.

Jim Laub, president and CEO of Cache Valley Electric Co., said his family supports Primary Promise “because caring for all children is the right thing to do, regardless of where you live.”
