Get to know Registered Practical Nurse, Jackie A. Westrik, who serves patients in Ontario, Canada.
New York City, May 22, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Specializing in geriatrics, Jackie is a registered practical nurse who has more than three decades of experience working at Hillsdale Estates, a nursing home located in Ontario, Canada.
Hillsdale Estate's goal is to provide dignified and excellent care in a home-like environment that enables all people to live full lives. The staff of professionals working there is committed to those they serve through understanding their needs, providing safe and supportive environments, working on improvement initiatives, offering an informed and collaborative decision process, and achieving their desired outcomes through clear communication.
In regards to her educational background, Jackie earned her nursing degree from Durham College in Oshawa, graduating with honors in 1988. Thereafter, she attained membership status with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the governing body for registered nurses in Ontario.
A registered practical nurse (RPN) is a healthcare professional who combines nursing skills, knowledge, and judgment to provide nursing care in various sectors of healthcare. The autonomy of the RPN is influenced by the complexity of the client's condition. RPNs have greater autonomy when caring for a client with less-complex conditions. As client complexity increases, there is a corresponding increase in the need for RPNs to consult with RNs.
In Ontario, RPNs are community college graduates. After graduation, they write a national certification examination. Once they successfully complete this exam, they are registered to practice as a nurse by the CNO. All nurses must renew their CNO registration annually, maintaining up-to-date skills and knowledge of current practices to preserve their professional standing.
On the subject of her community involvement, Jackie is a Red Cross volunteer. Outside of work, she enjoys gardening and swimming.
