H3 Energetics Introduces Commercial Sea Moss Powder as a Plant-Based Thickening and Menu Ingredient for Cafes and Smoothie Shops

Sep 13, 2026

Ohio-based wellness company launches a 10-pound foodservice format designed to simplify sea moss preparation, reduce spoilage concerns, and give operators a versatile alternative to traditional thickening agents.

United States, September 13, 2026 -- H3 Energetics has introduced a 10-pound commercial Sea Moss Gold Powder created specifically for smoothie shops, cafes, juice bars, restaurants, and other foodservice operators looking for an easier way to incorporate sea moss into their menus. The powder allows businesses to prepare fresh sea moss gel without the traditional process of soaking, rinsing, cleaning, and blending whole dry sea moss.

For a medium-consistency gel, operators can combine 20 grams of H3 Sea Moss Gold Powder with 16 ounces of water, heat the water to 185°F, stir gently for approximately five minutes, and allow the mixture to cool and thicken. One 10-pound bag can produce approximately 227 individual 16-ounce batches, or about 28 gallons of medium-consistency gel, giving operators a practical way to prepare only what they need while reducing refrigerated storage and spoilage concerns associated with finished gel.

The product can also be used as a plant-based thickening ingredient in smoothies, smoothie bowls, protein shakes, wellness beverages, sauces, and other food applications. For operators looking to reduce reliance on conventional gums or starch-based thickeners, sea moss offers a versatile option that can help create body and texture while supporting a cleaner, more premium ingredient story.

“We wanted to make sea moss easier for cafes and smoothie shops to use at scale,” said Sean Fields, founder of H3 Energetics. “Instead of spending hours soaking and cleaning raw sea moss, or managing the shelf life of finished gel, operators can prepare what they need, when they need it. It gives them more control over labor, storage, consistency, and menu development.”

H3 Energetics operates through The Ohio State University Food Science facilities, where production is supported by structured sanitation, traceability, microbial testing, and food-safety procedures. The company’s broader sea moss portfolio includes gels, powders, and dry sea moss products developed for both retail and foodservice channels.

H3 Energetics is also building on an established wholesale foundation. Its sea moss gels are already sold through respected retail accounts including Lucky’s Market, Dorothy Lane Market, Health Foods Unlimited, Jungle Jim’s, and Lemon Press Nantucket, with broader distribution access through UNFI and US Foods. That existing retail and distribution presence provides a strong platform for the company’s expansion into commercial foodservice with Sea Moss Gold Powder.

The new commercial powder can be used to create premium sea moss add-ons, signature smoothies, smoothie bowls, functional beverages, and other menu concepts, giving operators another way to differentiate their offerings while improving prep efficiency and potentially increasing average ticket value.

China shoots ahead on AI video models

While few dispute that China is narrowing the gap with the United States in developing artificial intelligence (AI) models, there is one area where Chinese firms are already the undisputed leaders: video. China has seen a proliferation of advanced generative AI video models – systems trained on visual data to generate or edit video content based on user inputs such as text prompts, images and audio. The country’s vast short-video ecosystems and looser copyright rules have helped give Chinese...
