Bon Soir Caterers reports growing NYC catering demand for private in-home dinner parties as an alternative to restaurant dining in Brooklyn and the tri-state area.
Brooklyn, United States, September 15, 2026 -- BROOKLYN, NY — Bon Soir Caterers, a Brooklyn-based off-premises catering company, announced this week that it has observed a marked increase in requests for private, in-home dinner parties across New York City over the past year, a shift the company attributes to changing preferences among diners seeking more personal alternatives to restaurant reservations. The trend spans corporate clients hosting smaller gatherings as well as families and individuals planning celebrations at home. Bon Soir Caterers said the pattern has been consistent across its client base in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the wider tri-state area. The company is sharing the data as part of an effort to document a broader change in how New Yorkers approach entertaining.
The shift toward home-based dining comes amid wider changes in consumer behavior around food and hospitality. According to the National Restaurant Association's 2024 State of the Restaurant Industry report, off-premises dining formats, including catering and delivery, have continued to gain share of consumer food spending as diners seek flexibility around cost, scheduling and privacy. Bon Soir Caterers said its own booking data reflects that pattern, with private home events now representing a larger share of its calendar than in prior years, particularly for milestone celebrations and small corporate functions previously held in restaurant private rooms.
Bon Soir Caterers, a full-service, off-premises caterer since 1977, offers both formal full-service dinners and simpler self-service menu options, allowing hosts to scale staffing and presentation to their budget and guest count. The company's menu includes vegetarian and vegan options designed to go beyond basic steamed-vegetable fare, along with a barbecue and grilling line operated under its Smokin Grill division. Clients organizing in-home events can also add bar service packages, ranging from beer-and-wine selections to fully customized cocktail programs, priced according to guest count and service duration.
In addition to food and beverage, Bon Soir Caterers provides staffing, rental coordination, event planning and vendor referrals for private dinner parties, functions the company says are increasingly requested as hosts take on responsibilities once handled by restaurant venues. The company reports that requests for these support services have grown alongside the rise in home-based events, as clients look to replicate a restaurant-level experience without leaving their residence. Bon Soir Caterers said staffing and rental requests are now a routine part of most in-home catering inquiries, rather than an occasional add-on.
“Over the past year, more of our clients are choosing to host in their own homes rather than book a restaurant, and they still expect the same level of service and food quality,” said Jeff Riley, Owner of Bon Soir Caterers. “That has meant adjusting how we staff and plan events, since a private home requires more coordination than a restaurant dining room already set up for service.”
