NetworkNewsAudio – SinglePoint, Inc. (SING) Takes Aim at the Budding Sports Betting Market

Related Editorial
A recent change in United States law has led to a gold rush in the gaming industry as numerous companies scramble to set up sports gambling operations.

The U.S. Supreme Court’s overruling of 1992 gambling legislation essentially makes sports betting widely legal throughout the country. Casinos are moving to make the most of this by opening sports books. Technology companies are also exploring possible revenue avenues through online gambling apps. The United States is set to see a $3–$5 billion take in the global sports betting market within a few years — a market already worth an estimated $40 billion.

One of the new players in the sports gambling space is SinglePoint, Inc. (OTCQB: SING) (SING Profile), a tech company focused on innovation that has invested in gambling app StakeHaul. In the world of big gambling, casino companies such as Caesars Entertainment Corp. (NASDAQ: CZR) are exploring ways to add sports gambling to their existing entertainment rosters. MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM)already provides sports gaming alongside traditional betting options. Following suit, Penn National Gaming, Inc. (NASDAQ: PENN) has started offering sports betting at some of its casinos, as has Boyd Gaming Corp. (NYSE: BYD), which is also entering the online gambling space.

South African activists try to protect endangered pangolins

Feb 20, 2019

JOHANNESBURG — As World Pangolin Day is marked around the globe, Saturday, some conservationists in South Africa are working to protect the endangered animals, including caring for a few that have been rescued from traffickers. The eighth annual pangolin day is celebrated to raise awareness about the shy, nocturnal scaly anteater, which some wildlife organizations say is the world's most trafficked animal. In South Africa, traffickers often sell the pangolin meat locally and ship the scales to Asia, where they are in demand for use in traditional medicine. The growing illegal trade has prompted plans in South Africa for a...

Nigeria's youth boom approaches the voting booth frustrated

Feb 20, 2019

ABUJA, Nigeria — Halima Usman is part of a booming new generation in Nigeria, voting for the first time in a presidential election Saturday after being raised during the country's two decades of civilian rule. A majority of eligible voters in Africa's most populous nation are now 35 or younger, a demographic that will help double the continent's population by 2050. Yet the 23-year-old Usman is visibly frustrated. She and other young voters across Africa chafe under leadership that is two, three, even four times their age. President Muhammadu Buhari, 76, has spent months of his term overseas for medical...

Archaeologists discover ancient workshop in Egypt's Sinai

Feb 20, 2019

CAIRO — Egypt says archaeologists have uncovered an ancient workshop used to build and repair ships that dates back to the Ptolemaic era (332 B.C.-30 B.C.) in the Sinai Peninsula. The Antiquities Ministry says Tuesday that excavations took place in the Tel Abu Saifi archaeological site in Northern Sinai. The site is said to have been the location of the Roman fortress of Silla. Mostafa Waziri, secretary general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, says the workshop includes two dry dockyards where ships were built or repaired. The Greco-Roman period in Egypt spans from its fall to Alexander the Great...

Losing climate change race a 'disaster for Africa,' UN says

Feb 20, 2019

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — The United Nations chief says the world is losing the race with climate change and "this can be a disaster for Africa" and beyond. Antonio Guterres urged more political will for financing and adaptation as he spoke on Saturday ahead of a summit of the African Union continental body. He says Africa will pay a "higher price" over climate change because of the dramatic impacts, while the continent "doesn't contribute much" to global warming. Temperature increases will be greater in Africa. The U.N. chief also tells reporters that after recent moves toward peace in South Sudan...

US cuts military aid to Cameroon over human rights concerns

Feb 20, 2019

JOHANNESBURG — The United States said Wednesday it is cutting some military aid to Cameroon over human rights concerns after growing allegations of abuses by security forces, a significant step against a solid ally in central Africa that is gripped by fighting between the government and Anglophone separatists. The U.S. decision comes after videos circulated online last year showing Cameroonian security forces shooting and killing civilians, including women with small children strapped to their backs. The videos were documented by Amnesty International and global media outlets. The top U.S. diplomat for Africa, Tibor Nagy, said in December that he feared...
